This class focuses on simplifying and exaggerating shape and form in order to produce appealing illustrations. Students will create their own versions of human and animal characters using traditional mediums. We will learn how to look at real-world references and gather information to develop strong visual language, storytelling poses, and expressions. All skill levels are welcome.

This class is taught by Pixar Directing Animator John CC Lee. Discover what it takes to create an animated short film!  During this intense 3-day bootcamp, students will begin with the basics of animation principles, character design, character development, learn about the art of storyboarding then create a short film that they're proud of.  We will be working traditionally with pencil and paper then finish their project on Procreate.  Students will be learning and familiarizing themself with industry terminologies, techniques and implementing specific tools on Procreate.  This class is intended for students interested in learning the process of animation.  Students will be given homework to practice.

This is a technical class with an emphasis on increasing accurate, effective 2D reproduction. We will do so by mapping out efficient ways to set up a drawing, as well as the necessary beginner knowledge of linear perspective, light/shadow, and how we can represent them 2 dimensionally.

6 weeks of fantasy creatures and monsters! In this course, we will have fun drawing all kinds of monsters and fairies, from mythical creatures to bizarre animals found in nature, and everything in between. We will exercise our creative muscles with prompts to help us think outside the box. We will practice working with peers to brainstorm and collaborate on creative ideas. And we will learn about how to use inspiration from a variety of sources to create new ideas for creatures that are unique! Some basic drawing skills are needed. Students should feel comfortable replicating basic shapes, know their colors, and be able to follow step-by-step instructions.

Create your own graphic novel and let your imagination come to life! During our class, we will learn drawing techniques, perspective drawing, story development, explore character design, set design, while working with various art mediums. We will delve into writing, tools and techniques, and learn how to use references, including combining and posing to bring one's vision to the page. Each student will take these skills and create their very own graphic novel. All levels welcome.

During Studio Practice time, artists will focus on individual development/project in addition to building fundamental skills (drawing and painting).  The goal is to produce a body of work in visual art that reflects a development in individual focus and develop solid concepts.

Taught by professional artist and video editor Duncan Robson, in this Stop-Motion Animation Camp, students will create short animated films through unconventional materials to make characters that will tell a unique and creative story. Campers will learn the basic elements of animation, storyboarding, character/set design, lighting and gain collaborative skills. Once the filming is complete, we will learn how to edit and add sound effects. By the end of the camp everyone will leave the class with a finished film that they can be proud of!

This class will prepare students for creating an art portfolio leading to art school/college admission. We work with students individually based on their personalities, interests, preferences, and the art majors they are pursuing. Our art instructor will assist students in planning their own art pieces, provide technical skill training and constructive critiques that will help them to create pieces that is well aligned with the student's original theme.

During this 5 session camp, artist Olivia Chen will cover basic skills of drawing to build a strong foundation and introduce acrylic painting. Students will learn to: recognize edges, lines, and angles, proportion and perspective; deciphering shadow, highlights, and gradations of tone; and lastly, the ability to unconsciously drawstring them all together - which comes to you with practice.

We assist our students in the process of creating presentable and professional portfolio pieces to satisfy each portfolio requirement. The goal is that students will be prepared and feel confident when it comes time to submit their portfolios. Students will be guided in the creation of various projects using various materials. Over the course of 10 weeks, students will create still-life drawings, explore techniques for drawing the human head and a few pieces of complete project of their choice. Participant must submit a few images of their art work.

But what if your comic wasn’t ever meant to be seen and judged as an art piece for someone else's consumption? Many professional comic artists keep “diary comics” which they sometimes eventually share, or use for inspiration when they are creating their professional works. Sometimes these diary comics end up being the basis for more polished memoir comics which have become a popular genre of graphic novels in their own right. In this summer camp, students will create diary-style comics every day as a way of processing thoughts, feelings, and observations about their life and the world.
