Rare opportunity!!  Learn from Story Artist Yung-Han Chang!

Storyboarding is a powerful tool to visually convey an idea for telling a story.  It is an essential process for filmmakers, graphic novel artist, illustrators, animators, game design artist, graphic designer, business planners and more.  During this two-Saturday workshop, Yung-Han will discuss his role as a Story Artist at Pixar Animation Studios, what his day entails, what skill sets are needed for storyboarding and how he approach a story.  We will be analyzing films, break down scenes in detail and drawing from the film. This workshop is for anymore who is interested in learning how to storyboard, improving your storytelling, and have a stronger understanding of filmmaking.  All levels are welcome!

Contemporary Creative Methods

This workshop course will be about the studio processes to creative critical thinking. The goal of the class is trying to open a path for students to embrace their unique points of view while still applying a technical standard in craftsmanship and execution. This will be geared towards artists who have a desire to refine their creative voice and broaden their visual understanding of subject matter, color, and texture. Over the two days Daniel Segrove will be going over ways to understand the approaches to creating a series or body of work that can then be applied on a professional level. These exercises will allow students to apply it towards any style they may be interested in; so they can have the creative freedom to personalize their own visual vocabulary.

Color Theory with Hadas Tal

The two-day workshop students will learn the basic principles of color theory through painting a still life object from life.  Hadas will discuss local color vs. surrounding background color and how to mix colors correctly on your palette before applying to the canvas.  The majority of this workshop focuses on color temperature, shading, tinting, high-saturated colors and neutral colors.  By understanding the three components of color – hue, values, and chroma, efficiently and consistently, significant improvements in color rendering and paint handling are possible.   Learning theses basic principle will help you build awareness to use color more effectively. 

All levels and mediums welcome.

Painting still life and portraits with focus on abstraction, 3-day oil painting workshop.

Alla Prima painting, or wet into wet, single session painting is a stimulating method which teaches you to be present in every brush stroke, focusing only on the essentials, ultimately giving you great dexterity and control. With demonstration and gentle critique, Felicia will challenge you to correctly observe and record the fundamentals: shapes, values, edges and color. 

In this workshop Felicia will combine portraiture, the subject that she was first interested in, and with which she gained her skill, with her current interests in still life, interiors and abstraction.

Felicia is an inspired and creative teacher with 9 years of teaching experience under her belt. She will interact with each student according to their experience and strengths. All levels welcome!

Oil Painting with Joevic Yeban

The practice of still life painting develops and strengthens your ability of observation.  This workshop is for both beginners and intermediate artists.  Joevic will talk about how to dissect what we see, understanding light effects, organize our thinking process, and application.  There will be lectures and demos on color theory, color mixing, hue, value, modeling, edge control, brushwork, paint handling and palette management.  Students will then practice from a still life set up with a single light source.  vInstructor will assist each student and provide individual critiques.

All levels welcome, but some experience drawing or painting is recommended.

Learn from the master!  The workshop will be focused on how to practice human anatomy in short poses, and draw with accurate proportions in longer poses.  Use most direct and effective approaches to draw the figure. 

Lots of demos and individual help will show students how to create beautiful line works, methods of placing different tones to render three dimensionally; design realistic works with supporting abstract elements; and the way to do drawings with painterly approach.  Techniques in Henry Yan's Figure Drawing book will be introduced and practiced.

FIRST TIME EVER!!  Nick Runge will be teaching a 2-day workshop on watercolor and oil painting.  With the focus on portraits, the first day Nick will do two watercolor demos, then on the second day, using the stronger of the two watercolors, he will develop it into an oil painting.  Students will bring their own reference (or use one of Nick’s) and use watercolor and/or oil to develop a painting under Nick’s guidance.

In this one day workshop, Eliza will specifically talk about how she developed her techniques and her art practice.  She will go over the tools of her trade, how she control line work and shading.  Student will be introduced to the artist's unique method of developing a finished drawing with Eliza leading a demonstration of students' process from start to finish.  In this workshop, students will learn a more direct and intuitive approach to drawing and lots of demo.  We'll start the workshop with quick gesture drawings for an hour/hour and a half, and go into constructing amore complex piece after that.

Floral Painting 2-Day Workshop with Sung Eun Kim

This workshop is for all level of experiences.   During the two days, Sung Eun will go over basic oil painting techniques and his methods of painting flower.  Students will learn to make sense of the forms/structure of the flowers, learn how to simplify the shapes and paint from life (Sung Eun's choice of flower arrangement).  Sung Eun will provide step by step demo, show you how to design and plan several steps ahead of time due to the fleeting nature of the subject matter.

This workshop will feature a live model, and Cuong will demonstrate his own techniques to draw from life using soft pastels and pastel pencils. Students will learn to use an approach that helps them see the big shapes first, and then go into details towards the end of the session.
